Respiration is the process in which food gets oxidized in the mitochondria to produce energy. The reactions that involve the oxidation of glucose are enzyme control. The byproducts of this reaction (respiration) are CO₂ and water. For the reaction to occur, O₂ must be present usually. You may ask yourself why oxygen is only mostly needed and not always, the fact behind this is that there is another type of respiration called anaerobic respiration where O₂ is not needed. Well Anaerobic respiration takes place
